The goal by the founders of Aimpoint back in 1974 was to develop a sighting technology that would allow quick target acquisition and the consistent and accurate hitting of moving targets in all weather and lighting conditions. And the goal has been achieved with the many impressive red dot sights in their product line. Their Comp M5 launched in 2017 is one of those that changed the red dot sight market forever. So, what exactly sets it apart and is it worth buying?

Key Features of the Aimpoint Comp M5

A quick look at the M5 reveals why it is a favorite among the military and law enforcement. Some of the key features include:

Red Dot Sight

It is a tiny micro-dot which offers incredible accuracy. Having a standard crisp easy to use 2 MOA dot and being compatible with magnifies makes it precise at a variety of distances. As a hunter, I loved the incredibly quick target acquisition.

Sturdiness

A 7075 high strength aluminum build makes it the sturdiest red dot sight on the market. It is stable, fully shockproof, fog-proof, and waterproof to a depth of 150 feet. It has a secondary window for underwater operation. Additionally, its operating temperature is an impressive -49 to +160 Fahrenheit range.

Battery

It uses an AAA battery, which makes it incredibly easy to replace no matter where you are. At position 7, it lasts a cool 5 years while at position 8, you will need to replace it after a year. When used in the night setting, it can last up to 10 years(100,000 hours). You can use a lithium battery for longer life.

Brightness Settings

The M5 has 10 power settings. Its position 1-4 is for use with night vision devices, while 5-10 are for day or night use.

Compatibility

It is compatible with all generations of Night Vision Devices. The sight also comes with a 39mm spacer and Micro LRP (Lever Release Picatinny) mount, which is actually a true return
